Using smart sensors, you can activate devices based on various events. Let’s take a look. You’ve invested in smart lighting or smart sunscreens. Now you can use an app to specify when the lighting is switched on and off, or for the sunscreens to open and close closed at specific times – including dawn or dusk. This kind of convenience makes everyday life easier. By adding different types of sensors to your home, you can make your everyday life even easier. In some cases you can also save energy. How does a motion sensor work? When a motion sensor detects movement, it activates one or more devices in your smart home. For example, when a person moves in front of the motion sensor, a light source may be switched on, music starts to play, and a sunshade may open. Automating the lighting in a room so that it turns on when someone enters, for example, helps to make everyday life a little more comfortable. The lighting can be programmed to turn off after a while, or when no movement is detected anymore. This helps to reduce unnecessary power consumption and is a positive for the environment. Installing a motion sensor is easy, as they are wireless. You just decide where you need one and then easily mount it there. If you find that it meets your needs, then it’s easy to add more in other places too. How does a magnetic contact work? Magnetic contacts are typically mounted on doors, windows or cabinets so that something happens when they’re opened. A common use case is to attach a magnetic contact to the front door so that the lighting in the hall turns on when the door is opened. You could also get your favorite music to play, for example. Magnetic contacts are easy to install, as most come with double-sided tape. You simply attach one part to the door and the other to the frame. Then you specify what you want to activate. A nice bonus with using magnetic contacts is that you can also see if a window has been left open when you are not at home. If you want to increase home security even more, it’s also possible to specify that an alarm should be activated if someone tries to open a window or a door when you are away. All this can help to deter potential intruders. Adding sun sensors and temperature sensors? Just like with other types of sensors, sun sensors and temperature sensors react to something – in this case sunlight and temperature. Sun and temperature sensors are the perfect addition to homes with roller blinds, curtains, terrace awnings, or window shades. When the sun’s rays come into the home, it can quickly become unpleasantly warm indoors and there is an increased risk of your furniture being bleached by the sunlight. With sun and temperature sensors this can easily be avoided.. You can program the sensors to raise or lower your sunshades, or open or close your curtains or roller blinds when the sunlight gets too bright or the indoor temperature becomes too high. This means you arrive home to a cooler place after the workday. With the help of smart sensors it’s also possible to take advantage of the sun's heat during cold winter days, by allowing the sunlight in to naturally heat your home. In the summer the opposite is true: you want to shut out the sun's rays so that you don't have to turn on the air conditioning as soon as you enter the home. Smart sensors enable this too. Our TaHoma switch is the brain of it all The TaHoma switch is a smart controller from Somfy that allows you to control all the smart products in your home according to the settings that you specify in the app. TaHoma connects the entire smart home from Somfy, with many options for optimising your indoor climate and your security. You can even control the temperature individually in different rooms, using our smart radiator thermostat to lower the heat when you leave home. This helps to prevent any unnecessary heating costs. If you want to be extra safe, there is also a smart smoke alarm that ensures you receive notifications if smoke is detected when you are not at home. As soon as smoke is detected, the blinds can be drawn up and lighting turned on to attract attention to the situation. Increased indoor comfort is good for both you and your wallet – especially in these times of high energy costs. So we encourage to try out some sensors in your home and experience an even smarter everyday life! Find out more Categories Smart solutions Disqus is inactive
