What is RTS?

Radio Technology Somfy® (RTS) is Somfy's own closed control platform with which you can control, operate and expand motorised interior and exterior sunblinds such as awnings, roller shutters, pergola awnings, roller blinds, roman blinds, curtain tracks from anywhere in and around your home.

What are the benefits of RTS technology?

Innovative operation, secure protocol, millions of users worldwide, easy to use and expandable at any time.

  • RTS transmissions pass through walls. You do not necessarily have to be near your awning or other type of application in which a Somfy motor is incorporated: operating is also from another room or from another floor.
  • RTS has a handy and self-adjustable "my" function with which you can easily give a product a fixed, favorite intermediate position. You can change it at any time.
  • No additional wires are required for operation. The receiver is in the motor. The only wire required is from the RTS motor to the power supply.
  • You can combine controls and controls as desired and expand the system at any time with additional remote controls, wireless wall controls and app control.
  • With RTS you can also apply compatible sensors that respond to weather change. For example, a Somfy RTS sun sensor lowers your sun protection during sunlight measurement and the wind sensor collects the sun protection in time if it starts to blow too hard.
  • Safe operation with a rolling code reduces interference with other radio products.

How does RTS work?

A simple push of a button on a remote control or wireless wall switch transmits a radio wave signal to easily raise and lower all motorized indoor or outdoor awnings. It is not necessary to point the transmitter at the motor in the sun protection because RTS is a radio technology: the signals circulate in contrast to infrared. The range of the signals is around 20 meters and goes through walls. So it doesn't really matter where you are in or around your home: you can always operate your blinds effortlessly.

Single and multi-channel controls

Single channel operation

Stuurt een gemotoriseerde zonwering individueel.

Operate 1 electric roller blind (or other application) individually or a group of roller blinds simultaneously.

Multi-channel operation

Operate 1 to 5 electric roller blinds (or other applications) individually or as a group. Expandable up to 16 channels with individual control.

Sensors

Climate sensors that respond to weather change

Do you want to expand the RTS installation with a sun and / or wind sensor to protect your awning? Somfy's sensors give you peace of mind. Did you leave home and did you realise that your sunscreen is still all the way down? No worries, if the weather suddenly changes, the wind or sun sensor will prove its worth and intervene immediately. The screen enters in time. You can also extend the installation with a rain sensor.

What else you need to know about RTS

Somfy’s product range uses four different technologies:

  • io-homecontrol® – for external solar shading, roller shutters and garage door motors
  • Wired Technology (WT) – for external and internal solar shading and roller shutters
  • RTS – for external and internal solar shading, roller shutters and garage door motors
  • Zigbee (the new standard) – currently available only for Somfy internal solar shading and designed for seamless integration into a smart home

Each of these technologies has its own product ranges, operating principles, specific features and options.

The main noticeable difference between RTS and io-homecontrol® is the status feedback provided via the remote control or the Somfy app. In addition, io-homecontrol® offers better integration with the TaHoma hub.

Somfy motors for internal solar shading remain available with RTS and WT technology. A new protocol will soon be added. Similar to io-homecontrol®, this protocol uses Zigbee, the global standard.
